INTRODUCTION: Cashew nut shell liquid contains Phenolic groupcalled ANACARDNIC ACID. CNSL oil is distilled and Card phenol isseparated. Cardphenol is polymerized and modified with Alkyds, Styrene monomerand Rosin to make Card phenol resin. Silex 85 is Cardphenol basedPhenolic Resins modified with Rosin. They are Golden Reddish yellow resins andare suitable for manufacturing Synthetic Hard Gloss Semi Darker & DarkerEnamel Paints, Insulating Varnishes, Printing Inks, Aluminum Medium havingoutstanding Film Properties. They can be blended with any conventional alkydsand can be used for making Lighter colour shades also.

Compatibility: These resins are compatiblewith all drying oils in all proportions like Linseed Oil, DCO, Soya etc., Theircompatibility with other resins like Alkyds, Epoxies is also very good.

Solubility: Silex 85 are soluble in most of the Aromatic &Aliphatic hydrocarbon solvents like Mineral Turpentine Oil (MTO), Xylene,Toluene, Solvent Naphtha etc., They are supplied in 80%, 70% & 50% solidcontents.

Film Characteristics: The film characteristicshave been studied making the resin to 30% solids in Mineral Turpentine, Driersadded are 1.0% Lead, 0.5% Cobalt & 1.0% Manganese as metals in theirOctoate and the varnish is left for 24 hours for ageing, properties as per ISspecifications 197-1972. These resins have very good film forming property,gloss, hardness and water resistance. These properties are beneficial topaint manufacturers as CNSL resin is economical. However pure Cardphenol resincan be incorporated in regular paint formulation to reduce cost and adjustquality.
